Visit The Historic Center
For an insight into the history of the area including its religious and cultural heritage, you must visit the churches in the town of Rio das Flores. There are many old and beautiful churches with a rich history in the vicinity. But one of the oldest is Igreja de Santa Teresa d'Avila, a catholic church right in the city center, which is a 5-minute drive from our hotel. The church dates back to 1851 and is built in a neo-gothic style.
The church is next to Parque de Eventos de Rio das Flores. The Parque de Eventos is where various cultural festivals and sports events occur. These include the annual motor event, coffee festival, and the June festivals. Thus, we recommend you plan your trip in the summer!
Visit Cachaçaria Werneck
Cachaçaria Werneck is a farm that produces Cachaça, a beverage from sugarcane. The farm belongs to Eli and Cilene Werneck, a couple who has taken this sustainable project into a tourism success story.
Their organic and sustainable production led Cachaçaria Werneck to be the first producer near Rio de Janeiro to receive the INMETRO Certification of Quality and Sustainability award. Cachaçaria Werneck is only a 15-minute drive away from the city center, and because of its recognition, it is popular among tourists.
Waterfalls in Rio das Flores
Aside from the historical and religious point of view, Rio Das Flores is full of natural beauty. There are three main waterfalls near the town: Amor, São Leandro, and Chuveirinho waterfall.
Amor Waterfall: Going approximately 25 meters high, with a small lake at its base for fishing the Amor Waterfall is a great recreational area. Surrounding the waterfall are several opportunites for water sports. The area also hosts convenient bathroom facilities.
Chuveirinho and São Leandro Waterfalls: Both of these waterfalls are located in the city center. From Barreira Park, it's a hike to Pontilhão, leading to Chuveirinh waterfall.
São José Das Três Ilhas
São José Das Três Ilhas is a village of colonial times hidden in Minas Gerais state. From Rio das Flores, it's a 47-minute drive to the historical era of colonization. A small village with around 200 residents who live a simple life. The village also deals with coffee production, so don't forget to grab yourself a fresh cup of Joe while you're there.
Fazenda Do Paraízo Rio Das Flores
Fazenda Do Paraízo is a historical coffee farm located in Vale do Café. This 19th-century farm's initial product was exquisite coffee. But with time, it changed to dairy products, and now the magnificent mansion is the main attraction for tourists.
All the furniture paintings date back 100 years, making this a historical landmark. Since it's only a 45-minute drive from Rio das Flores, the farm is a must-visit for any history buff.
Coffee Valley Festival
Coffee valley festival, locally known as 'Festival vale do café', occurs annually in July. This festival is celebrated mainly in the Vale do Paraíba region and surrounding areas like Rio das Flores, Valenca, etc. The purpose is to pay tribute to the wealth that coffee production has blessed the region.
Excellent music performances, history, and free concerts make this a charming attraction for the outlanders. There are not many 4-star hotels in the city center. The Fazenda União, i.e., a mansion converted into a guesthouse, is a relaxing place for leisure activities but doesn't have all the facilities. Fazenda união is a farmhouse used for holding events. Fazenda união, as compared to Kings Boutique Hotel, is far from the city center.
So not a very wise choice if you are fond of walking. From a price point of view, Kings Boutique Hotel offers the best room at a reasonable price. You can book a couple's room at as low as $250/night. However, at places like Fazenda união, the prices are comparatively high, and you won't find a room like this or cost there.

Rio das Flores is 185.8 km away from Rio de Janeiro. You can either go by train, bus or car. The cheapest is the bus. It'll cost around $25 but will take around 3 hours to reach. Renting a car is the most ideal in terms of time and money, but only if it's your car and not an Uber otherwise, it'll cost a fortune. Out of all these options, the most recommended and preferred by tourists is the train, it costs around $70.
Although longer than by car, if you stop at Valença, then it won't be tiring. It takes around 2 hours to reach Valenca where you can either spend a night or take a taxi to Rio das Flores making the trip less tiring and expensive.
